The Futures Trail starts alongside campsite #22 and travels 4.6 miles to Mt. Ascutney's summit. At 4.1 miles, the trail connects to the Windsor Trail. As the trail begins, it travels into the woods offering views from Bare Rock Vista which is just one mile from the trailhead. The trail weaves back to Mountain Road, another access point which has a picnic area with restroom facilities. The trail heads back into the woods and once again back to Mountain Road which offers another parking area and access point. From here the trail heads into the woods and at 3.5 miles, views of Steam Donkey, an old logging machine, may be seen. The trail then heads north to reach Windsor Trail which takes you to the summit and other trail junctions. Note: about midway there is a link trail over to Slot Trail which originated in the Mountain Road parking lot. This trail does provide access to the summit.
