This is a short one-mile round trip from the trailhead off Catoctin's Park Central Road, or a longer ramble through the woods alongside the access road from the main visitor's center. Views from the top are of the Catoctin ridgeline, Chimney and Wolf rocks, and Thurmont in the valley below. You can return to the visitor's center on a more strenuous hike along the ridgeline via Wolf and Chimney rocks.

  • Although there are better views and outcrops (not to mention some fun rock scrambling) along the trails to Wolf and Chimney rocks, this hike is good for the less able-bodied and teeny hikers. Keep your eyes peeled for deer, snakes, wild turkeys, woodpeckers, chipmunks, and maybe even a black bear!
