This is a five-mile loop from the park's main visitor's center that takes in the panoramic views from the Blue Ridge Summit (1,520 feet) and Hog Rock (1,610 feet), while passing over the central spine of the park and through its flower-filled hardwood forest.

  • Camp overnight at Misty Mount Cabins for access to the trails and scenery before the day-trippers flood in from Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
  • Note that the trails here get crowded on the weekend, especially during peak fall foliage season. A better, equally scenic time might be in spring when the wildflowers and dogwoods bloom.
