Poison Flat is a broad, low pass between the Silver King drainage and the East Fork Carson River drainage. Two large meadows occupy the Flat and the trail passes easily along their edges. The easiest access to the Poison Flat trail is from Rodriguez Flat, via the Driveway trail. The east end of the Poison Flat trail starts on the west bank of the Silver King Creek, opposite the Driveway trail terminus. From the creek, the trail climbs short and steep, quickly passing the marked junction with Poison Lake trail to the left. Soon after it enters Poison Flat proper. At the Flat's west end, the trail passes the unique geological feature called the Soda Cone and begins a 900 foot decent into the East Fork drainage. Magnificent views are afforded of the lush Dumonts Meadows filling the bottom of the deep East Fork Canyon. The trail descends on dry, sunny slopes, eventually ending at the East Carson River trail, 1/4 mile north of Soda Springs Guard Station.
Please Remember:
* Always carry drinking water.
* Hike in single file to keep trails narrow and wild.
