Jones Lake Trail is a self-guided hike that offers an excellent opportunity to experience the habitats of a Carolina bay. The trail is 3 miles long through dense vegetation and over boggy soil offering views of lakeside plant life. You will wonder among large bald cypress trees dripping with Spanish moss. Leatherwood plants with delicate white flowers, also called titi, hang from the water's edge.
Directions: From Elizabethtown, NC, Jones Lake State Park is located in Bladen County, four miles south of Elizabethtown on NC 242. After passing the park entrance, park in the mail parking lot. The trail begins along the lake behind the picnic shelter.
