Discovery Loop Trail travels alongside Little Fishing Creek and along Spring Branch Creek. There is no swimming along these creeks. The trail travels through a forest of pine, sweet gum, birch and oak. The understory is rather bare but making it possible to view scampering gray squirrels.
Directions: From Roanoke Rapids, NC, Twenty-one miles southwest of Roanoke Rapids and 23 miles north of Rocky Mount. From I-95 follow NC 48 to SR 1002 between Brinkleyville and Ringwood. Turn west on to SR 1002 to park office. (This route also loops around to the SR 1322 entrance.) OR From I-95 follow NC 48 to NC 561 turning west and traveling to SR 1322. Head south on SR 1322 to park entrance. To reach this trail enter at the SR 1322 entrance. Once you pass the gate, you will see an open field on your left. Discovery Loop Trail may be accessed from the northeastern edge of this area or you may pick it up from Stream Loop Trail.
