Some say hiking in Uwharrie National Forest is best in winter. Warmer months bring concerns of ticks, copperheads and timber rattlesnakes. Hunters during the fall and spring months threaten hikers in off-trail areas.

Robbins Branch Trail is a popular trail that may be combined with Birkhead Mountain Trail and Hannah's Creek Trail to create a circuit hike of about 7 miles. The trail travels over gradual terrain and numerous creek beds.

Directions: From Asheboro, NC, Travel SR 49 southwest about 5 miles turning left (south) onto Lassiter Mill Road. Travel Lassiter Mill Road for approximately 5 miles. Trailhead is clearly marked.
