Of all the scenic waterfalls in South Carolina, only a few qualify for postcard status. The 400-foot Raven Cliff Falls definitely qualifies, since it never takes a bad picture. The red-blazed Raven Cliff Falls Trail begins at a parking area on US 276, one mile north of Caesars Head State Park, and is a moderately difficult 2-mile hike to the falls. After you cross US 276, you will pass a power line right-of-way, then continue along a rolling path that passes through a forest of mixed hardwoods, mountain laurel, white pine as well as colorful flame and pink azaleas. American chestnuts still live in these woods among some of the largest hemlocks, yellow birch, and sourwood you will ever see. Black bears also make their home here, but you'll be fortunate to see one, as they are extremely shy. At 1.4 miles you will come to a "T" intersection. Turn left (southwest), and hike approximately .6 mile to a platform that overlooks the falls.

There is primitive, trailside camping available in Jones Gap State Park and Caesars Head State Park. Full-service campsites are available at Table Rock State Park.

Directions: From Greenville, Drive northwest on US 276. Continue to the parking area for the Raven Cliff Falls Trail, which is on the right one mile beyond Caesars Head State Park. The trailhead is across the road and marked with red blazes.
