Fork Mountain Trail is 6 miles long and considered difficult. There are no trail blazes, however, it does follow Forest Service Road 109. The path begins at 3,200 feet and terminates about 5,000 feet at Ivestor's Gap. In the beginning it parallels Turnpike Creek for a short distance then does not encounter any other water.
Directions: From Waynesville, NC, Travel east on US 276 about 7 miles turning right (south) onto SR 215. Travel SR 215 about 8 miles to the recreation area. Trail begins on SR 215 just south of the recreation area on the north side of the road.
Elevation: 5,000 feet
Elevation Gain: 1,800 feet
