This is actually a loop trail that begins gradually then forks. For the easiest ascension, bear right. The path travels alongside the north end of Hattaway Mountain where you may notice the park's horse trail across the stream. The trail turns eastward and ascends to the park's third highest peak, Hattaway Mountain. After reaching the flat rocky peak, the trail then drops sharply to complete the loop. Head right traveling back to the pool bathhouse.
Directions: From Albemarle, NC, Travel six miles east of Albemarle on NC 740. Turn right (east) onto Morrow Mountain Road and take it into the park. Travel past the park gate and the park residences. The road will fork and you will want to take a left. Travel about 1 mile and you will see where the road forks again. Bear left to the swimming pool. The trail begins at the pool bathhouse.
