  • Start this great day hike at Woodland Valley Campground, a state-run operation, that makes for a good base camp.
  • Experience different environments as you climb past Woodland Creek to reach the peak of 3,780-foot Wittenburg Mountain at four miles, where you can gain great views of Ashokan Reservoir.
  • Persistent hikers can trek seven miles one way to the top of Slide Mountain, the highest point in the Catskills.
