Start this great day hike at Woodland Valley Campground, a state-run operation, that makes for a good base camp.
Experience different environments as you climb past Woodland Creek to reach the peak of 3,780-foot Wittenburg Mountain at four miles, where you can gain great views of Ashokan Reservoir.
Persistent hikers can trek seven miles one way to the top of Slide Mountain, the highest point in the Catskills.
