Climb away from the valley to make several views, the first being at 2.9 miles, then make Reconnoiter Rock, which has a spectacular view.
Persistence pays off for those who want to top out on the crest of Peekamoose Mountain: Hike 3.4 miles to get to the peak at 3,840 feet.
For those who want to hike the trail in its entirety, it's seven rugged and beautiful miles. Trailheads are located at both ends of the path to avoid a there-and-back of 14 miles.
