Waterparks seem to be popping up everywhere these days, but when was the last time you went to a natural waterpark? In the midst of an Adirondack forest that dates back many millions of years, the natural forces of time and water from the Ausable River gradually cut a chasm into the sandstone, creating a gorge that was first discovered by Europeans 400 years ago and turned into a public attraction in 1870. Walk through a maze of rock formations, forested trails, and along the rim of the vast chasm. In addition to the geological scenery of this ancient wonder, you'll have the chance to see plenty of wildlife including blue heron, falcon, and various wildflowers.

In addition to enjoying a bird's-eye-view of the chasm from up high, you can ride down the river on a raft or inner tube. Try a nighttime lantern-guided tour, or explore the trails on horseback. Campgrounds are available in the park if you'd like to make your visit last longer than a day.
