  • The highlights of this 23,000-acre monument are the canyonside cliff dwellings and the ruins of the "cities" that once dotted the valley floor. Visitors can climb ladders into ancient Anasazi homes and wander narrow trails over a thousand years old.
  • Bandelier is easily accessible and popular so it gets crowded. May through September, weekday mornings are your best bet.
  • Permits required for backcountry camping.
