Take a hike along a stream to reach the Galehead Hut. It is about four miles and 1,800 feet to the Appalachian Trail. Several stream crossings make this hike a summer proposition.
You can gain views along the way, even though much of the trek is along water. The final part of the trail steepens just before intersecting the AT.
To reach the Galehead Hut, follow the Appalachian Trail 4.7 miles and visit the spot hikers and other campers stay in this high country. Consider camping here yourself or using some of the roadside camping areas near the trailhead. Be aware that this hut is closed during the winter.
