Parks and OutdoorsExpert Tips & Helpful Hints
- Make a 23-mile loop through the Desoto National Forest on this hiking trail, which winds through high pine hills and hardwood bottoms with sand-bottomed clear streams.
- Hikers appreciate that this trail is foot travel only, as it first follows an old logging railroad grade, passing over century old pilings from the days when this rail ran through the woods of southeast Mississippi.
- Pass Lake Airey then keep on to reach an old WW II POW camp, where German prisoners were held. The trail is well maintained and easy to follow, and good for novice trail treaders.
