  • Older kids love watching the hourly cannon and rifle firing demonstrations and sometimes they can even become part of the action. Younger children may not be so crazy about the boom of the cannon fire. Keep your eyes on the time so you can prepare little ones for a loud sound.
  • The park offers several dining options, but the Fort Mackinac Tea Room provides the best scenery: Outdoor seating overlooking the bluff offers a panoramic view of the island.
Built by the British when Mackinac Island was under England's control, Fort Mackinac was an important battleground that saw a lot of action during the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. Today, the fort (now museum) still bustles with activity
