Black River Harbor, one of only two harbors within the National Forest System, is a popular recreation area throughout the year. The Black River Scenic Byway comprises 12 miles of Black River Harbor Road beginning in Bessemer, Michigan dropping to meet Lake Superior at Black River Harbor. This byway was approved in July 1992 and dedicated in September 1992. The scenic beauty of the area includes numerous waterfalls on the National Wild and Scenic Black River, old growth eastern white pine and hemlock stands, and the Historic Black River Harbor Village. There is ample opportunity for hiking the North Country Scenic Trail and camping along this route. Black River Harbor provides charter-fishing opportunities in Lake Superior.

Directions: From Bessemer, MI, Travel US 2 to CR 513 (Black River Road) north. Signage is good. The actual Byway begins on CR 513 at its intersection with CR 204 (Airport Road).
