The Centro Ecológico Akumal (CEA) is a non-profit organization that monitors the health of Akumal's coral reef as well as its turtle population. Among other projects, the CEA hosts weekly lectures and leads "turtle walks" to look for and help turtle hatchlings. It also has an extensive volunteer program.
