La Tovara, a fresh-water spring near San Blas, is a popular outing, more for the boat trip through the San Cristobal Estuary--an excellent bird watching spot--than for a dip in the spring itself.

  • La Tovara is a freshwater spring and it sure looks inviting. Notice the fence, however, which keeps crocodiles from entering the water. Those really jonesin' for a swim might wait to get back to the hotel.
  • Rare birds and all kinds of reptiles—turtles, iguanas, and crocs—populate these wetlands.
