This is one of the nicest, least expensive, and easiest family activities in Ixtapa. The trail, depending on what you read and whom you ask, is anywhere from four to seven miles long. In fact, if you include the section that connects Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo, it is about seven miles. But it is also hilly and there are a few steep climbs, especially going to Zihua, so it can challenge cyclists. There are three sections: from the marina to the golf course; up through Parque Aztlan, a shady and peaceful nature reserve, and on to Playa Linda; and the section from Ixtapa to Zihuatanejo. You can combine the trail with portions on a road (the long, curving switchbacks are easier for younger cyclists than the steep portions of the trail, but you do have to watch out for cars and taxis). Many of Ixtapa's hotels rent bikes or offer them free to guests, and some have guides who will lead guests on the trail as well. There are also bike rentals in town and tour guides who will take you on the trails.
