Barra de Potosí is a small, tranquil seaside village located at the southern end of Playa Larga Beach. It features a variety of fresh seafood restaurants, small hotels and properties, and is also home to a wildlife sanctuary lagoon, where you can see wading birds as flamingos, pelicans, roseate spoonbills, kingfishers, and herons.

  • Located about 40 minutes from Zihuatanejo, this is a small, beachside town of about 500 people and a wide lagoon that is home to hundreds of birds. Peaceful immersion into natural Mexico and authentic culture are reasons to visit, but the fresh seafood is also excellent and inexpensive.
  • Take a tour on a small boat to see the lagoon up close, or, if you're up for it, rent kayaks and go out into the water on your own. One caveat: the lagoon naturally disappears during parts of the year as the ocean shifts the sand barrier, so make sure it's open when you want to go.
  • This is one of the few places where you can arrange to ride horses directly on the beach.
