A trip to Cajun country is so much more enjoyable if you understand the area’s—and its people’s—roots. A short drive outside of Lafayette, The Prairie Acadian Culture Center is part of the National Park Service and a great resource for finding out more about the Acadian people and how their culture has influenced Louisiana.

Exhibits, artifacts, and films educate visitors of any age and children can explore the center via scavenger hunts, puzzles, and other activities to earn a Junior Ranger badge (ask for more information at the visitor center).

The center offers regular programming, including free Cajun music and dancing every Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. (lessons included), free cooking demonstrations at 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays, and live Cajun and zydeco music every Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m.
