The Lycian Way (Likya Yolu) is a 300-plus-mile coastal path along the coast of southern Turkey, from Fethiye to Antalya. It's the brainchild of British expatriate Kate Clow, who researched, marked, and signposted a network of rural roads, mountain paths, and mule trails that trace the route taken by St. Paul on his three missionary journeys to Asia Minor. The trail covers a variety of terrain through ancient sites and modern-day villages. It's a major attraction for trekkers, who stay in small pensions, village houses, or campsites along the way. Covering the entire distance on foot could take a month, but the trails are set up for day excursions as well. The scenery is beautiful, with ancient bridges, aqueducts, canyons, waterfalls, lakes, and peaks. The trail is marked by white and red stripes, and parts of it are medium to difficult to hike (hint: it's easier to start near Fethiye). In summertime, it can be quite hot to walk, but the trekking is perfect in autumn and spring.
