Powdery white sand and clear turquoise water are reasons enough for the throngs of people that flock here every season, not to mention the bars, restaurants, and facilities along a fine sweep of sandy shore. But the real draw is the legendary healing waters. As the story goes, Alexander McCatty was a wealthy doctor who would walk through a small cave to soak in the tranquil sea. His friends and colleagues occasionally joined him, forming the original club. McCatty eventually donated the property and in the 1920s, a muscle and bone specialist discovered its therapeutic powers. The cave is no more, but many still believe in the water's wondrous ways.
