The stunning beach on the far eastern end of the south coast of the island is probably the most famous (and infamous) in Cyprus. Packed to the gills in summer with beautiful young people flaunting their stuff, it's famous for its beach parties and big name DJs that attract Northern European tourists, especially Brits. Located just west of the Agia Napa resort area and forming part of the larger Nissi Beach area, the over 1,000-foot golden beach lines its own cove and is across the bay from a small island ("nissi" means island in Greek). The calm, shallow waters here are perfect for swimming and lifeguards are on duty. Water skiing, windsurfing, pedal boats, bungee jumping, and volleyball are complemented by sun bed and umbrella hires, restaurants, and convenience stores. Although thoroughly 21st Century, archaeological excavations dating back 12,000 years indicate the area could have been settled by the first humans to the island.
