For families with kids age six and up, Whitewater Rafting Jasper offers two-hour and three-and-a-half-hour trips on different sections of the Athabasca River—a Canadian Heritage River and early-1800s fur-trade route. The shorter trip, covering about five and a half miles, has small sets of rapids and scenic stretches. The longer trip, which starts at the base of Athabasca Falls, travels through a spectacular canyon with numerous Class II rapids. The most popular of the company's trips is on the Sunwapta River, which features Class III rapids. Participants must weigh at least 50 pounds. Wetsuits, life jackets, paddle jackets, neoprene mitts and booties, wind pants, and ski hats are all available for inclement weather. For the Athabasca River trips, transportation is provided from the town of Jasper.
