Vieques National Wildlife Refuge consists of 14,671-acres split between the eastern and western sections of the island. The refuge shelters sea turtles, brown pelicans, the West Indian manatee, and other wildlife. The refuge offers multiple natural environments including beaches, coastal lagoons, mangrove wetlands, and upland forested areas.
