If you haven’t had any luck with underwater wildlife encounters on your own, head to this Tahitian owned and operated “waterpark” in an enclosed outdoor aquarium near Le Meridien Bora Bora. You can actually jump in and bond with all the sea creatures in a safe way, making it ideal for families with small children. A trained guide helps you with a mask and snorkel, and you get up and close and personal with native lagoon creatures like turtles, sharks, and rays (the latter two are involved in feeding demonstrations). The sharks are fenced in, so don’t worry about starring in a Jaws sequel. The Lagoonarium serves barbeque fish and chicken picnics in a traditional motu thatched house, and they also host circle island tours in outrigger canoes.
