  • Every winter, thousands of humpback whales migrate to Samana Bay to feed, mate, and give birth.
  • Take a boat tour with one of several reputable operators out of Bahia de Samana. Make arrangements with one of the independent boat owners on the dock or through the activity desk at your hotel. If you want sound equipment and scientific information from a knowledgeable guide, take an organized tour with one of the larger operators.
  • Humpbacks are known for their frisky behavior, so expect to see them spouting water, slapping their fins, and leaping high out of the sea. This is the male's way of attracting attention from females.
