Once the main nude, gay beach in Costa Rica, Playita is more accustomed to clothing and heteros nowadays due to the recent construction of the Arenas del Mar Hotel. But all beaches in Costa Rica are public, so gays (both local and tourists) still frequent this long-established beach–you just may want to keep your Speedo on, since nudity is technically illegal. This Pacific Coast beach still feels remote and virgin despite the luxury hotel, and it is all surrounded by national park. Playing in the waves here is great, but be sure to look out for the hidden rocks under the surface. Sometimes people know the beach by the name Playa Espadilla, which is actually south of Playita. Either way, the gay-popular town of Quepos is located conveniently nearby.
