This incredible dive at the Catalina Islands, situated about 20 miles southwest of Playa del Coco, is best done as a drift dive. The dive boat drops divers off upcurrent, allowing them to ride the ocean's flow through rock formations and into open ocean before picking them up downstream. The first section of the dive goes through a submarine canyon loaded with whitetip reef sharks. Once through the channel, divers drop to about 70 feet, where giant pacific manta rays and schools of eagle and cownose rays cruise the depths.
