Tortola sailors organized the BVI's first spring regatta in 1972, and it has evolved into one of the Caribbean's top sailing competitions. But the event has never lost the jocular air with which it began; as the organizers' website says, the race has "a reputation for serious competition and serious partying." Held yearly in March or April.
