From Victoria to the community of Sooke, this 55-kilometer (34-mile) trail packs a wallop of scenic landscapes. It runs through woodsy corridors and on high trestle bridges over river canyons. There's rain forest and seaside, farmland and marshes, quiet coves and rocky outcrops. Wide, smooth, level, and linear, with plenty of access points and few road crossings, it is a perfect trail for families on bikes. For a great half-day segment, try the 13-kilometer (eight-mile) stretch from Roche Cove Regional Park to Sooke Potholes Regional Park. You'll pedal along the edge of Sooke Basin on a high rim overlooking the water, cross a long curving trestle, then ride beside the Sooke River. At the park, you can opt for a refreshing dip in the cold river.
