The Baldy Mountain Trail is located in the Flat Tops west of Yampa, in the Dunckley Pass/Pyramid area. The trail begins 1/2 mile north of the National Forest boundary in a small meadow adjacent to Forest Highway 16, The Flat Tops Trail Scenic Byway.
The trail crosses the Williams Fork River by a bridge and enters the Routt National Forest at mile 0.4. The trail heads southwest and eventually traverses the lower slopes of Baldy Mountain. It enters the Flat Tops Wilderness at mile 3.5. Several old sheep trails diverge along this route. Use caution and follow the existing signs. A topographic map may be helpful. The trail eventually passes to the south of Pyramid Peak and intersects the Black Mountain Creek Trail, #1117 just below Windy Gap. By turning north on #1117, the traveler may exit at Sheriff Reservoir or make a loop trip by heading south and west using the East Fork Trail #1119.
