Located in the northern region of Horicon Marsh, the Horicon Ternpike Auto Tour is easily accessible off Highway 49 several miles east of Waupun. A large parking area at the entrance to the Auto Tour affords access to the half-mile Redhead Hiking Trail and Red Fox Nature Trail. About midway on this 3.2-mile tour another parking area with associated restrooms affords access to Egret Trail. During seasonal closings, the Auto Trail is only open to hikers and bikers. Bikers are not permitted on the trails.

Horicon Ternpike Auto Tour starts by paralleling an approximate mile of Redhead Hiking Trail. Bearing east the tour skirts Rock River for a short distance before heading northeast between marsh and prairie habitat. This is where the southern parking area is encountered featuring pit toilet and access to Egret Trail. The auto tour continues northeast with sights of brush and timberland then swings westward completing the loop at 3.2 miles. Information stations along the route enhance the visitor's ecosystem knowledge.
