Explore two trails on Manitou Island in conjunction with reliving the region's rich historic commercial fishing era. Fish camps on the Apostle Islands began to appear in the 1800s and continued with few changes through the 1950s. At Manitou Fish Camp learn how fishermen used these camps as a link with the fish companies of Bayfield.
The Campsite Trail leaves the Manitou Fish Camp and follows a 2-mile path along the west shore of the island through several hemlock groves in route to the island's only campsite. The Archeological Site Trail follows a 0.75-mile trail from the Manitou Fish Camp to a viewpoint at the south tip of the island near the site of a prehistoric fishing camp.
