The Sherrick Farm Trail is a 2.25-mile loop trail used in conjunction with park roads, located on the southern end of the Antietam National Battlefield. Trailhead parking is located of MD State Route 34 and Rodman Avenue. This scenic trail takes you through woodlots, along farm fields, and by historic landmarks made infamous by the battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862.

The location of this trail makes it a prime footpath for listening to and viewing wildlife native to this region. It is not uncommon to see a flock of turkeys, an oriole in flight, or a fox scurrying for cover. Wildflowers also grace the area at different times of the year lending beauty to your hike and presenting great photo opportunities.

If history is your main interest, landmarks like the Antietam Creek, Burnside Bridge, and the Sherrick and Otto houses are just a few of the sites that you will see on your hike.

Portions of the Sherrick Farm Trail, not on park roads, are marked by blue blazes and open to foot travel only. This trail may be used in conjunction with the Snavely Ford Trail, a 2.5-mile loop trail that begins just south of the Burnside Bridge.

Directions: From Capital Beltway, Take Interstate 270 to Interstate 70 West. Drive approximately 25 miles exiting onto MD State Route 65 South. Travel 10 miles past the entrance to the Battlefield. Travel one more mile to Sharpsburg turning left onto MD State Route 34. Travel half mile, go downhill then turn right onto Rodman Avenue. A trailhead parking lot is located at this juncture.
