Middle Mountain trail begins along Stony Run Trail soon after the waterfalls. At this point the trail steepens significantly. Many switchbacks ease the ascension. The Tuscarora Overlook Trail spurs off to a clearing with a restored CCC shelter. The short .5 mile yellow-blazed path terminates at a gorgeous spot for a much needed rest and picnic lunch. Returning to Middle Mountain Trail, turn right to descend onto Blue Suck Falls Trail. At the 2,560 elevation point the hiker will be treated to Lookout Rock, another spectacular park view. Many of Douthat's trails are interconnected and it is highly recommended that the hiker obtain a map from the park office.
