- The Refuge has five miles of ocean beach and several miles of bay beach.
- There are four hiking trails in the refuge. The Yellow Trail unwinds along the beach on the Bay; the Blue Trail is just 1.3 miles between the Bay and the ocean; the inland Green Trail connects to the Yellow Trail; and the 2.1-mile Loop Trail stretches from the south to the north parking lot.
- Spring and fall are the peaks of shorebird migration, the times when hundreds of thousands of birds stop to feed and rest. The nesting season is March through September.
