Loowit Trail is intermittently maintained and traverses the east side of Mount St. Helens. In places the trail location is identified by wooden post route markers and rock cairns. Mountain bike use is allowed on the segment from Ape canyon to the junction of Abraham Trail #216D.

Directions: From Cougar, Follow Forest Route 90 northeast to Forest Route 83 (just past the Swift Viewpoint). Follow 83 north for approximately nine miles to the trailhead for Ape Canyon Trail #234. Follow this trail north for 5.5 miles until it ends at Loowit Trail.
