• This small town, tucked into the Cascades, attracts a lot of visitors who come to see the Bavarian-themed architecture and the natural beauty that surrounds it.
• Tour the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery is two miles out of town on Icicle Road, which produces 2.5 million fish per year. Watch for belted kingfishers hunting trout and salmon, and walk the mile-long interpretive trail.
• Highway 97 heads south from Leavenworth, connecting Highway 2 with I-90 by way of the 4,102-foot Blewett Pass. An interpretive trail offers a three-mile loop through the forest at the pass. A more primitive but shorter old highway also leads over the pass, a great option for an added element of adventure.
