According to the U.S. Forest Service, Lewis Fork is "one of the most heavily used Wilderness areas in the Southeast." As a section of the 114,000-acre Mount Rogers National Recreation Area (Jefferson National Forest), Lewis Fork Wilderness includes Mount Rogers, Virginia's highest point at 5,729 feet. The scenery is typical of Appalachia, with the expected forest and wildlife. If real Virginia solitude is your goal, respect Lewis Fork but go somewhere else.
