On the eastern end of Mount Rogers National Recreation Area (Jefferson National Forest), Little Dry Run Wilderness gets very few visitors, despite the fact that the area is easily accessible. Most hikers and horse packers pass through on the Virginia Highlands Horse Trail, which traces the southern boundary for approximately five miles. A land of small ridges and drainages, hardwood forested slopes, and opportunities for genuine solitude, the terrain ranges in elevation from 2,440 feet on Little Dry Run itself to 3,614 feet at a point near the middle of the area. Wildlife is diverse, abundant, and typical of Appalachia. You can fish for native trout in Little Dry Run.
Access to the area centers along the Little Dry Run Trail.
