Virginia Beach features miles of beaches and hundreds of hotels, motels, and restaurants along the oceanfront. The three-mile oceanfront boardwalk offers outdoor cafes, shops, and entertainment, and guests can participate in beach volleyball, sand soccer, surfing, sailing, boat races, triathlons, sea kayaking, parasailing, jet skiing, open water swimming, and fishing. Highlights of the area include the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, 24th Street Park, and False Cape State Park. The beaches have played host to such annual events as the North American Sand Sculpting Championships and the East Coast Surfing Championship.
