Editor Tips & Helpful Hints
- This is a great spot at which to spend a couple of nights. Lodging includes the cabins and campground at Rocky Knob. Hike out of the campground along a ridge that then drops down into Rock Castle Gorge. This is a tough 10.8-mile full-day hike, so you might consider camping in the backcountry before completing the loop the next day.
- If you're nostalgic for some of that 1960s free living, schedule a visit to the quirky township of Floyd, south of Roanoke and a few miles northwest of Rocky Knob off the Parkway. Don't miss July's annual FloydFest, a groovy four-day celebration of world, bluegrass, reggae, folk, African, and Appalachian music, arts, and culture.
