Historic Jamestowne is the site of the first permanent English settlement in America, and its mission is to preserve, protect and promote the site. Visitors can watch archaeologists excavate the site of the 1607 James Fort, listen as park rangers describe how John Smith and others made a settlement out of the Virginia Wilderness, watch costumed glassblowers demonstrate their craft, and walk along the ruins of the many of the town's original 17th century buildings.
