This trail begins on the east side of SR 116 about 5.5 miles north of East Middlebury. You'll soon pass a cascading mountain stream. Just past the first stream crossing on the left through the oak woods is a nice view of the Champlain Valley from a ledge. Abbey Pond itself supports an interesting community of marsh plants. This picturesque pond is fairly remote offering a wonderful opportunity for wildlife viewing.
