The Battell Trail may be accessed from the tiny burg of Lincoln found along Lincoln Road south of SR 17. From the Lincoln Village Store, take the first right onto Elder Hill Road. After about 1.2 miles bear straight past a road to the right then after crossing a beaver meadow, bear right at the "Y" in the road to reach the trailhead. The trail travels east to the Long Trail. Following the Long Trail just .1 mile, you'll come to the Battell Shelter. About 1 mile north on the trail is Mt. Abraham at elevation 4,006 feet. The distance between the trailhead and Battell Shelter is 2.3 miles with an elevation gain of 1,170 feet. This portion of trail is rated moderate.
Directions: From Lincoln, VT, Travel north on Quaker Street for a very short distance turning right onto Elder Hill Road. Take this road for approximately 1.2 miles and bear straight past a road to the right. After crossing a beaver meadow, bear right at the "Y" which carries you to the trailhead.
