Located just minutes away from the busy outlet mecca of Manchester Depot, this 1.5 mile hike to Prospect Rock is very refreshing. The walk is through a beautiful forest of mixed hardwoods which are quite showy during the fall foliage season. It begins near a bubbling brook then as it approaches the midway point it ascends steadily. Near the Lye Brook Wilderness sign, a less traveled path bears left. Stay on the main trail and within the next 1/4 mile the trail tapers off and you begin to get glimpses of the accompanying mountains. A short spur path actually takes to you Prospect Rock, 2,079 feet. Be sure to retrace you steps and not end up on the white-blazed Appalachian / Long Trail which follows a northeasterly route. However, you may wish to enjoy the several small paths which lead to other overlooks.
Directions: From Manchester Depot, VT, Travel northeast on SRs 11 / 30 making a sharp right onto East Manchester Road. Make an immediate left onto Rootville Road. Follow until the road forks (which is practically the end of the road) and bear right. Trailhead is at the end. Parking is limited.
